About 99/1

Scale your success — not your workload

You are successful and you want to scale. But everything you tried before — Lean, Agile, OKR, and now AI — was no breakthrough. It just led to more work on your desk instead of scaling. More success meant more work and less life, and somewhere along the way you became the busy boss instead of the leader you meant to be.

What you need is a way to grow the output of the whole — without adding effort. For the company, and for you personally. That is what 99/1 is: success at scale with less work and more life. Not the busy boss — the calm, clear, grounded leader who is respected and purposeful.

It works because a company is not a set of independent actions. Pareto's 80/20 holds for independent actions; a company is a heavily coupled system, so the ratio is 99/1 or steeper. Goldratt showed that in every complex system there is one single point that determines the output of the whole — the constraint. Like a chain, only the weakest link decides its strength, and only at that link can you make the system stronger at all. That one point is the one lever you move as a leader. Everything else is noise.

We show you how to find this one lever — and how to manage it optimally.

What happens when you move the lever

01

Clarity

You can finally say what matters. Your people know where to focus, they understand why, and they support you.

02

Flow

You relieve the constraint. Multitasking, escalations and meetings go down — on their desks and on yours. Flow kicks in.

03

Buffers

Freed capacity protects the deliveries. Everyone sees the buffers and protects them together. Collaboration turns solution-oriented.

04

Self-sharpening axe

Buffer consumers are hunted down systematically. The system gets sharper the longer it runs.

Onboarding without resistance — your people are invited to find the flaw in the 99/1 approach. While searching for it they find the real obstacles, the solutions, and what's in it for them personally. Instead of resisting the change, they ask you for the mandate to drive it.

The constraint by design — we show you how to willfully make the one lever the constraint, and to push it to the place with the biggest impact at the lowest personal effort.

A clear step-by-step strategy, easy to communicate — leading to a highly successful life in business and as a person. A real leader following a long-term viable strategy.

Why 99/1 and not 80/20

A short exchange between Christian Reckel and Wolfram Müller.

Christian

Everyone is successful and wants to scale. Lean, Agile, OKR, now AI — and the result is always more work on the boss's desk. Why?

Wolfram

Because they use 80/20. Pareto works for independent actions. A company is not a set of independent actions — it is a heavily coupled system. In a coupled system the ratio isn't 80/20, it's 99/1 or steeper. So 99 per cent of what you improve changes nothing at all.

Christian

And the one per cent?

Wolfram

Goldratt showed it: in every complex system there is one single point that determines the output of the whole — the constraint. Like a chain: only the weakest link decides its strength, and only there can you make the system stronger at all. That one point is your one lever. Everything else is noise.

Christian

That sounds simple. Why does almost nobody do it?

Wolfram

Because you have to know where the constraint sits — and most companies never measure it. That's the whole job: find the one lever, then manage it optimally. Clarity comes first, then flow, then buffers everyone protects together, and then the axe sharpens itself.

Christian

And what does that do for the person in charge?

Wolfram

More success with less work. Not the busy boss — the calm, clear leader with a step-by-step strategy that's easy to communicate. That's the whole promise: scale your success, not your workload.

The Speakers

Wolfram Müller

Founder of DolphinUniverse · Expert in constraint management and high-speed organisations

Degrees in mechatronics and mechanical engineering, born 1969. Started out in medical technology in development and manufacturing, where as a project manager he learned the tools of classical project management – including their limits. From 2000 to 2010 at 1&1 Internet AG, latterly as head of the Project Office: 40 project managers, more than 500 projects, and a Critical Chain rollout that doubled throughput within months. Since then he has guided companies through the introduction of constraint management based on the Theory of Constraints, complemented by Critical Chain, Agile and self-organisation mechanisms after Haken and Schiepek. More than fifty successful implementations – from start-ups through the Mittelstand to corporations with 6,500 employees, in automotive, special machinery, medical technology and IT, among them Bosch, Festo, Telefónica and Endress+Hauser. Author and co-author of over twenty books and articles on Critical Chain, Agile and Lean, and a sought-after speaker across Europe. Founder of DolphinUniverse, a global community for high-performance organisations. What drives him: business success and an easy life are not mutually exclusive – you just have to know where the constraint sits.

Christian Reckel

Sparring partner for entrepreneurs and managing directors · Reckel & Partner

Engineer (Technical University of Ilmenau), Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt and practitioner of the Theory of Constraints. More than ten years in process and quality responsibility, including several years so deeply embedded in one company that the line between consultant and colleague was invisible both internally and externally – in his view the only position from which you can genuinely change anything. With Reckel & Partner he today accompanies mid-sized companies and their managing directors through critical decision and growth phases. His focus is data-driven improvement of process efficiency: more profit and reliable growth without building additional resources. As an interviewer and podcaster he brings complex management topics to where decision makers can actually use them – straight to the point. His conviction: the money is lying on every desk. You just have to find it under the pile of paper.
